A tired solider fails in porn…

In lecture 13 the big topic was safety with the porn stars. The TTYN was about what kind of regulations should be in affect and I think that self-regulation is the best. I wouldn’t want to watch porn if everyone was super safe, I guess part of watching is the fantasy that disease doesn’t effect these people. Making unlike real life. Self-regulation seems to work fairly well and there really is no way to control what everyone is doing anyhow. But for the famous players in the industry they use measure to be safe and it works for them. I do think that condoms should be used more, especially in the more risky things that are being done. Do you think people would be so willing to do these things if they knew that there were definitely going to get an STD or AIDS from it? There is always the risk, but porn is about taking risk and pushing to the next level. On that note, the issue of playing the long game kind of surprised me, the way that porno really isn’t just people having sex. It’s an art that like film is created over hours and many different takes. For men this is what makes or breaks you from being a star, women it’s much easier. I would not want to the be man who has to be hard for hours and not even like what or who you are doing. Thats why so few men can really make porn. When that came up in lecture I guess I never really thought about it before. Another thing that we always hear about how women are belittled in porn and that they are powerless, but then in the lecture it was the women in those cases of top porn stars who were calling the shots they were the ones who were saying what they would or wouldn’t do. So now we add another level to talking about porn we have to understand are we talking about the elite or the sex slave because these are very different levels of the industry.

Why do they call it a moneyshot?

In lecture 12 the main issues was the choice that the pornography talent makes. Is it really a choice for these men and mostly women to be in the industry? From the well paid famous people there is the captions that yes they love being in porno films and it is there choice, but what about the people who are not making money off of being in these films. Obviously there is no choice to the people who are in the violent or rape videos, but what about the girls that leave their countries or homes to make porn? Is there really a choice for them? Since so few people really know what the porn industry is like these girls are getting into something that might look like quick money then just getting out of it, when really it is nothing like that. What looks great on the outside is a trap for many of these girls, they have no idea. Is this false advertising of the glamour of porn wrong?
What about the people who are brought into the country as sex slaves? Didn’t we abolish slavery in America? Doesn’t that count sex slaves? So doesn’t that make it an illegal production if slaves are used? The glory of having money allows people to get into these traps of sex slavery. There should be more information available to the general public about the ways of these potential problems. The pornography industry might look great to someone who doesn’t have many other choices. Like in the lecture it is said that women who chose to create porn aren’t the same ones that are enrolled in Harvard. These women who are selling their bodies for money isn’t that prostitution? Again in the lecture it was talked about how you have to address the issues of prostitution and pornography. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with pornography, the same with prostitution, but there are limits to what is acceptable for both. If the people who are performing these acts if it is there choice to do it and if they know what they are getting in to, these are just jobs much like waiting tables or working at McDonalds. True no body wants to do this forever and for sure you are not setting up a 401K or being professional like what society expects but not everyone can do that. Sometimes you do what you have to put money on the table. These are just jobs. Not everyone is going to be given the chance to do great things but society shouldn’t shun them for doing something.
What was new and amazing to me was the difference in pay for gay porn for men. I guess the more I think about it and when I watched the clip again its I can see guys being to macho to admit to having anal sex, even though that doesn’t make them gay. Overall porn is amazing because of what people will do for money. Is that why its called a moneyshot? because of the money it makes, making it hardcore porn?

Porno superstar…

After reading this week I can see the hypocrisy that is talked about involving the large companies, and how they are using pornography and similar means to have these websites and services that generate large amounts of money for they companies. If you are going to tell everyone that you are setting up porno searches and they want them changed like with what happened to Yahoo! and now when you search sex you get abortion information it becomes a societal game of which one is more heated.
Internet businesses have to stick together as the reading say that you will find ads of other large scale porn sites on the other sites, these banners make money and that is what is needed to survive in business. Another example of this is selling videos online, these smaller new companies have to sell pornography in order to compete with the larger scale businesses like Blockbuster and Wal*Mart, which do not sell porno. This never-ending demand for porn is firing an industry that is not talked about. Why aren’t these websites that makes millions of dollars on the list of top businesses in the magazines and the people that are rich because of it on the wealthiest people lists? Heffner is iconic for his role, why aren’t there others like him? Until this class why hadn’t I heard about Danni if her website is so large? I just don’t understand how an industry can be so large and people know virtually nothing about it?

In this weeks lecture there was talk about Hugh Heffner and how with a little bit of cash and good timing he has created a huge empire. The idea that he didn’t even take credit for the first magazine because of the obscenity laws kind of boggles me, Why would you place everything you have on the line just to challenge the fact that you might go to jail? The people who have taken the chances to make money in the new aspects of the porno industry have been come super powers of this business. When you create a website that gets more hits in one day than many do in a week, we should look at what is drawing people to these sites? Is it just the content, the images or is in advertising or other aspects? Is it wrong for people to be lead to a site that they think is sexual in nature by false advertising, and vice versa should there be more blocks when you are looking things up and you get porn sites? There are rules and filters that stop this on some sites, but I don’t think that they work well. I would not want my child on the Internet without supervision. I just read an article on Netscape about the dangers of child pornographers and other people who harm children are using Internet sites like MYSPACE to stalk kids. After watching the lecture about the pornography that I made with cut and paste type are I can understand that they can make child porn with computer images and your child’s head could just be cut and placed on the naked body. To me that is sicker than regular child pornography because there are as many more meditative steps to stuff like that.

Porn Giant….

In this weeks lectures there is so much talking about the unknown size of pornography business throughout the world. The income from these sites is redirected under different names or just not talked about in society. Why is the demand for pornography so large? Is it like this all over the world? I would think so since many of the phone sex, and off shore sex vacations occur all over the world. I wonder if people are driven to pornography in part due to the fact that society says that it is wrong. One important thing in the lecture was how easy it was to come across child pornography on the Internet, the reading also talked about this with AOL, how does one protect themselves from getting in trouble for something like that?
Technology that is used in the pornography industry is ever growing and we talk a lot about this over the course of the class, but why is so much of this not general knowledge? How can we be informed consumers if we do not know what is out there? Now that catalogs are online, and much of the buying and selling of sex toys, vacations, and even partners without knowing that this is online its as if there is another world out there, that accepts porno and builds from it. But then we hear that large companies like Yahoo! and AOL have parts of their company that are based in the pornography industry and they are just not telling us. Now that I know this I feel that I have to question all different businesses that are successful to wonder if the money they are making is from things like porn.

Should we spell it out…

In lecture, there was talk about Playboy magazine being compared to Cosmo magazine, and both magazines being pornographic in nature. I was thinking about it, as I was flipping through one of my Cosmo magazines, and though I might not think that its porno I can see, how some do. Playboy is porn because it is visual. Naked people are stimulating. Cosmo on the other hand can be porn because it is very sexual. Being told how to have sex, and step by step how to perform sexual acts is very erotic. It is just different types of porn. Is Cosmo any different from chat room sex where people are telling each other what they are doing or going to do to the other? I do not think so, and when I put it that way I feel that Cosmo can be porn. Cosmo is porn spelled out for you word for word, with only a few pictures of nearly naked people, the goods are not show, at least in the United States version. The European version is more graphic because the culture allows nipples and full breast to be shown without shame.

Armature vs. Pro was also talked about during lecture. Why would professionals want to look like they are armatures? Is there more excitement out of watching armature porn vs. pro? Is watching pro porn supporting the pornography business but armature not, is it really an issue of the consciences of the person watching the video.
